HOW DO WE (UN)CONSCIOSLY DESTROY THE GEARBOX
05.02.2020
What are your habits when using the transmission while driving? If you find any of the following errors in the text below, try changing them.
Although we are sometimes aware that we are making mistakes, we often indulge in automatic driving and thus neglect the mistakes and problems that our car has and how it remembers:
1. Resting your hand on the gearbox
The first in a series of bad habits is resting your hand on the gearbox. You should not use the gearbox as a resting place because the pressure and weight of the hand pushes the gearbox fork, which can lead to accelerated wear of the fork and damage to mechanical parts. However, a light touch of the transmission while driving at a certain speed does not affect much, but it is certainly advisable to avoid this bad habit. Remember the rules adopted earlier about keeping both hands on the steering wheel, thus extending the life of the transmission, reducing risky situations and increasing safety.
2. Keeping the transmission in gear when stopping at traffic lights
This is another bad and very common habit. Depending on the conditions and waiting times at the traffic light, we adapt to the situation and traffic requirements, but try to get the transmission out of gear while you wait. It doesn't take long to simply move to the first one and go when it's time. Getting rid of the worry and releasing the clutch makes it a big relief to the gearbox.
3. Acceleration at high gear
Speeding up too high is also one of the unnecessary and undesirable situations. For example, if you drive at 50 km / h in 5th gear, do not accelerate because the car is not ready for extreme acceleration at that speed, which is unnatural to expect. Therefore, lower the gear during acceleration to the intended speed.
4. Keeping your foot on the clutch pedal while the car is moving
Another bad and damaging habit is keeping your foot on the clutch while the car is moving. This action is similar to resting a hand on a gearbox. Constant repetition of the said action can put pressure on the mechanical parts of the gearbox or gearbox on the engine. Remember the rule that was initially adopted that if we stopped suddenly, we would first apply the brake and then the clutch.
